8 Missing After Fishing Vessel Collides With Container Ship Near Chinese Island Of Hainan

Eight individuals went missing after a fishing boat from China collided with a Panama container vessel near a town in Hainan, according to CCTV reports on Wednesday.

CCTV added that a search and rescue mission is underway, and the reason behind the accident is currently under investigation.

The SITC Danang container vessel, which flies a Panamanian flag, collided with a fishing vessel approximately 15 minutes after midnight.

Upon receiving the distress call, Hainan’s emergency response personnel swiftly mobilized, dispatching police and military search teams to the scene.

As of 5:30 pm, 21 vessels and five aircraft were actively involved in the search and rescue operation.

A photograph published by the broadcaster reflected an orange emergency life raft floating in the sea where the collision occurred, although no individuals were visible.
